Club members David and Ben Rowler are set to make a special appearance at this week’s Australian Open.
Just like brothers John and Patrick McEnroe or sisters Venus and Serena Williams the Rowler brothers will be battling it out to determine who the best player is. They have won the chance to play on the People’s Court at Australian Open 2015 thanks to a new partnership between Tennis Australia and the Transport Accident Commission.
They will be playing under the new “Fast4’ format developed by Tennis Australia. Court 5, generally a match or practice court during the event, will be transformed into the People’s Court, with competitors enjoying a total Australian Open playing experience complete with a chair umpire, ballkids, statistician and court services.
Just like every Australian Open competitor they will receive an official player towel as well as a highlights video of their on-court performance to share on social media. If you are keen to catch them in action they will be playing on Friday 23rd January at 3:30pm on court 5.

David and Ben learnt to play tennis from an early age on their grandmothers (Betty Crozier’s) tennis court. Tennis is really a family affair with both parents Dennis and Pam also playing at Glen Iris. After receiving coaching down at the club and by the age of eight they both were representing Glen Iris in the Waverley Juniors Saturday morning competition. Since then they have continued to represent the club in various competitions including Tennis Victoria’s Pennant each Winter.
