Last weekend saw our men’s and women’s Grade 1 pennant teams both play at Royal South Yarra as part of the Tennis Victoria Super round.
Our women’s Grade 1 team consolidated their spot in the top 4 with a solid win against the top-placed Centre Court Indoor, 2-5-45 to 2-5-39. Helena Spiridis and Katherine Westbury had a tough 1st match loss against Carolyn McGann and Romona Mataruga 4/6 6/3 4/6, while Emily Tinker and Tamara Bajagic had a tight win against Jenelle Findlay and Emma Thompson 6/2 3/6 6/4. The reverse doubles matches were once again split but MCC GIV got the win on game difference. It’s been a great season for the girls so far, only losing one match for the season (a forfeit) and winning 5.
Our Men’s Grade 1 side were strengthed with the return of Chase Ferguson and Lucas Vuradin from overseas tournaments and they did not disappoint winning both their rubbers. Unfortunately, the brother combination of Matthew and Daniel Kouznetsov went down in both their matches and MCC GIV lost by a set on the day.
We are coming up to the halfway point of the season which includes the long weekend break on Saturday, June 9th followed by a scheduled break on Saturday, July 7th. Wishing all teams the best of luck for the remaining half of the season.
