The first week of the 2016 Tennis Victoria pennant finals got underway over the weekend and saw mixed results for MCC Glen Iris Valley Tennis.

The two clubs had entered teams separate before the merger was finalised and we look forward to combining the teams for the 2017 season. Here are some of the results from week 1 final action;

Glen Iris Valley Teams:

The two grade 3 teams (one Men’s & one Women’s) both finished the home and away season 4th and came up against the 1st placed teams in their sections. Unfortunately, both were unable to get across the line and were eliminated in the cut-throat final.

The same fate was found by the Men’s Grade 6 team which amazingly finished the day on the same number match wins, sets and games. The match was then decided by a one-off match tie-break in doubles which went to Fitzroy 10-8. Glen Iris Valley’s team (Andrew Rabinovich, Sean Munaweera, Trent Mills (c), Lee Blashki, Matt Tsimos and Andrew Sucevic) were left to rue a number of opportunities in the various matches against the top of the ladder Fitzroy TC.

MCC Teams:

MCC Tennis Section had four teams compete in week one of the finals. Below are the results.

  • Ladies Grade 2 Sec 2 – MCC defeated East Preston Park
  • Ladies Grade 3 Sec 2 – MCC Defeated Essendon No 2
  • Ladies Grade 3 Sec 3 – MCC Defeated Hepner Place Indoor
  • Men’s Grade 4 Sec 1 – Beaumaris defeated MCC

Good luck to the three remaining teams for next weeks matches.
