The last round of the 2016 WDTA home & away Junior competition season was played over the weekend with a record 18 MCC Glen Iris Valley teams taking to the court. There looks to be plenty of success on the cards with the semi-finals starting this week. A solid 10 teams will compete is week one of the finals this coming weekend in an attempt to make the grand final . We would like to thank the Mt Waverley Tennis Club for allowing us to use their courts as an outside venue on Sunday’s as the numbers of teams grow. This enables matches the majority of our matches to have two courts to finish their matches.

All semi-finals information will be available this Thursday including the teams opponent and location of the match. Below is a wrap of the teams who didn’t quite get to this weekend’s semi-finals:

A Reserve 1 (Gold): Julian Scaturchio, Jason Dong and Ben Lillie had extremely solid season but fell a few points short of making the top 4. These boys have moved up into the highest section of Sunday competition and only missed the finals by a few points finishing 5th.

A Reserve 1 (Green): Mark Chen and Nik Dayandas. Had a great year considering they moved up a few grades but in the end really took it up to some of the top teams. Both boys showed incredible fight and teamed up beautifully in doubles which gave them several wins throughout the season. Finished 7th

A Reserve 2: Akash Deo, Gregory Pletsias and Joshua Palmer. An Injury Plagued season for the boys but they fought on and had many honorable performances. All 3 boys have trained together for a while and get on extremely well which showed on the court. Great sportsmanship from the boys.

B Special 3: Arielle Rusman, Magdalena Belic and Timothee Janet. Another team that has narrowly missed out on a finals spot. Great to see all 3 show great improvement in the second half of the season after a slow start to the year. Another solid season finishing 5th.

B Grade 3 (White): Valeria Tarasova and Justine Janet. Battled it out considering there 3rd player had a serious injury and couldn’t play the whole season. Great effort from the girls.

C Special 1 (Blue): Jessica Vicino, Ella Wallace, Angelique Dayandas and Lorena Leon. After making the finals in 5 straight seasons, the girls just fell short after moving up several grades from last season. Well done Girls and we look forward to seeing your team in the summer season.

C Special 2: Anthony Atherinos, Lara Cunningham, Tony Ng and Timothy Loughnan. Great to see the team unity when 4 extremely good friends compete and great sportsmanship all season.

D Grade 7: First time comp players Charlotte Cutts, Sophia Brooks Gay, Shin Yi Pan and Angeliki Katis had a fantastic 1st season. The girls had several wins but narrowly missed making the finals. There improvement from round 1 to 14 was astounding. Best of luck girls in the upcoming summer season.
