Congratulations to long time club member Chanchai Sookton-Eng on earning his first ATP singles point.
Chanchai was a member of last year’s Premier League team and is in the grade 1 men’s team in season 2017. While Chanchai has held a world ranking in doubles for more than a year this was his first singles point – the first with more to come. He competed in three events in Thailand, the first of which in Hua Hin, where he came through three qualification matches before winning his round in the main draw.
His three matches in qualifying were won;
- 6-0 6-0
- 6-1 6-1
- 6-2 1-6 7-6
before he won his main draw match aginst Lingxi Zhao of China 7-6 6-4.
After a couple of weeks back in Melbourne training, he will head back to Asia to continue to work on his game, compete and hopefully add further points to his ranking. Achieving you first world ranking point is always a milestone in a player’s career and from all the MCC Glen Iris Valley TC, well done Chanchai.
