Tennis Victoria’s Pennant competition is the largest interclub representative competition in the country with over 3500 junior and adult players representing 150 clubs. Tennis Victoria Pennant is played during the winter season (April – August) and is played over 14 weeks plus finals. Play begins at 9am on a Saturday morning for Women and at 1pm on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon for Men (Sunday afternoon also Women’s teams available).
The competition is played over 14 or 15 weeks. In eight-team sections, each team plays each other twice over 14 weeks, and in six-team sections teams play each other three times over 15 weeks.
For 2023, Tennis Victoria has confirmed the same format as last year will apply for all grades from grade 2 and below. This format consists of two eight-game doubles sets followed by four “best-of-two” singles rubbers with a ten-point match tiebreaker instead of a full third. Up to six players are allowed to play in a match.
There has also been the re-introduction of State Grade for season 2023.
Grading
The Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) will be used by Tennis Victoria as the primary grading method. All players should create a login to Match Centre, if they do not have one already. Once logged in, please search for your name, and merge any additional profiles you have by clicking the blue button that says “Link Profile”. This will ensure that your profile has the most accurate rating.
