The Vida Tennis Group Hot Shots kids tennis lessons are run in a fun, enthusiastic environment with emphasis on developing the fundamental motor skills for tennis and everyday life. Energetic, high participation, with small class sizes to create a great environment to fast track learning and individual development. As the players progress the emphasis is placed on tactical and technique awareness. Players will be placed in groups of similar age and standard and a racquet can be provided for the session if required. Sessions run for 30 minutes or 45 minutes depending on age. Group lessons form part of the “my Vida journey program and incorporates the Tennis Australia Hot Shots Program.
When: Monday to Friday from 3.30pm. Saturday and Sunday mornings from 9am
Vida Tennis have their own designed “my Vida journey” program to help guild children through the learning process. All kids who enroll in Hot Shots Group tennis lessons participate in the program and are guided through their tennis pathway receiving certificates along the way to mark their achievements. Once completed they can then take their “next steps” into competition, squads and more. There are two program areas with the my Vida journey; Head Start Program and the my Progress Program.
The Hot Shots Stage are integrated into the my Vida journey and are split into three stages: Red, Orange and Green.
There is also an optional Launch Pad stage for young players aged between three and five-years-old. Children progress from one stage to the next when they are ready. This ensures that children learn at their pace and will ultimately make the transition to using a yellow ball on a full-size court when they are fully prepared.
Launch Pad Stage (ages 3 – 5)
The Launch Pad stage introduces children to tennis through games and fun activities. Children learn the basics of tennis including how to rally. This stage really help children develop their fundamental motor skills; throw, run, catch, jump and most importantly, tracking. There are a number of program options at this stage but its a great way for kids to stage tennis and have fun.
Court Size: variable
Tennis Ball: red ball (25% compression)
Recommended Racquet Size: 19–23 inches
Red Stage (ages 5 – 8)
The Red stage is for beginners. The red ball is larger than a yellow ball and doesn’t bounce as high (just 25 per cent compression), making it a breeze for even the youngest players to hit it comfortably. The courts and nets used in the Red stage are much smaller and easier for kids to move around.
Court Size: 3m × 8.23 or 6m × 10.97 m
Tennis Ball: red ball (25 per cent compression)
Recommended Racquet Size: 21–23 inches
Orange Stage (ages 8 – 10)
After mastering the Red stage, children move on to the Orange stage where the ball bounces a little higher (50 per cent compression) and the court is a bit bigger. Kids continue to develop their skills in a modified tennis environment while having a great time.
Court Size: 6.4m × 18.29m
Tennis Ball: orange ball (50 per cent compression)
Recommended Racquet Size: 23–25 inches
Green Stage (ages 8 – 10)
The ball used in the Green stage has a higher compression (75 per cent of a yellow tennis ball) and children play on a full-size court.
Court Size: 10.97m × 23.78m (full court)
Tennis Ball: green ball (75 per cent compression)
Recommended Racquet Size: 25–27 inches
Yellow Stage (ages 11+)
The Yellow Stage is not an official stage in the Hot Shots Program but it marks the time when a child is ready to play on full size courts with the normal yellow tennis ball.
